Rachel Wittenstein

Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) | Early Childhood & Development

B.A. in Communication Disorders, Tel Aviv University. A certified SLP with hands-on experience working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children. Alongside my specialty in child development, I also work with teens — in clinic or online.

For me, therapy goes far beyond drills and exercises — it is a human connection built through play, trust, and warmth. I work with children on the floor, entering their world, and from that natural and joyful place I guide progress in language, speech, communication, and thinking — while nurturing confidence and a sense of capability.

I make sure to actively involve parents throughout the process, providing clear and practical guidance for everyday life — so that progress continues at home, in kindergarten, and at school. When a child feels safe, confident, and successful, learning happens in the most meaningful way.

What Do I Treat?

Language & Vocabulary

A child who speaks less than expected, struggles to follow instructions, or isn't building age-appropriate sentences.

Childhood Apraxia of Speech

Difficulty planning and coordinating speech movements — your child knows what they want to say, but the mouth doesn't always cooperate. Treated using the PROMPT method.

Articulation & Speech Intelligibility

Complex articulation errors, sound substitutions or omissions — when others (even family) can't always understand what your child is saying.

OMT — Oral Myofunctional Therapy

Treatment of the oral, lingual, and jaw muscles using the Stecco Facial Manipulation method — to improve articulation and oral function.

Tongue Thrust

Assessment and treatment of tongue thrust during speech, swallowing, or at rest — a pattern that can affect articulation and oral structure.

Social Thinking & Social Skills

Helping children understand social situations, read social cues, and initiate interactions with peers.

Teens

Not just for kids: articulation and intelligibility difficulties, tongue thrust, and social communication skills can be treated in adolescence and beyond. Therapy is tailored to age, personal goals and schedule — in clinic in Tel Aviv or online.

Questions Parents Ask

A few answers to the most common questions — before you reach out.

If you sense that something isn't quite right — it's worth checking. It's also always a good idea to consult your pediatrician and request a referral for a hearing evaluation.

If your child's vocabulary seems limited, their play doesn't match age expectations, their speech is hard to understand, or they struggle to comprehend social situations — any one of these is a sufficient reason to reach out.

It varies greatly depending on the child and what they present with. Some children make significant progress within a few months; others require a longer process. At the first session, I'll assess the situation and discuss realistic expectations with you.

In-clinic therapy allows direct work with your child using physical tools and materials. Online therapy works great for children who respond well to screens, for families who live far from the clinic, and for parent-guidance sessions. I'll decide together with you what best fits your child at the initial meeting.

The first session is an introductory meeting — for you and your child. I'll ask about developmental history, observe your child in free play and brief structured activities, and together we'll identify strengths, challenges, and needs. At the end I'll summarize my impressions and suggest an initial direction.

The introductory session allows your child to get comfortable at their own pace — to meet me, the therapy room, and the way we work together. From that sense of ease and security, we gradually build the foundation for collaboration and learning, and a meaningful, targeted therapeutic process begins.

Absolutely. Parents are the most important partners in therapy. I work closely with parents, explaining what I do and why, and I provide practical tools for home practice between sessions.

Yes. Alongside my specialty in early childhood and child development, I also treat teens — for articulation and intelligibility difficulties, tongue thrust, OMT, and social communication and social thinking skills. Therapy is tailored to age, personal goals and schedule, in clinic in Tel Aviv or online.

Yes. Articulation difficulties and tongue thrust can be treated in adolescence and beyond. Teens are usually more motivated and able to practice independently, so the process is often focused and relatively short. Tongue-thrust therapy is especially important before or during orthodontic treatment, to protect the result over time.
